Visit to the Printmaking Department at Forth Valley College, Stirling / by Anna Olafsson

At the moment I am working on setting up a printmaking workshop at the new WASPS artist studios development, the Perth Creative Exchange. To this end, I have been visiting printmaking studios across Scotland to learn from other printmakers about studio layouts and equipment, why they have been designed in a particular way, which techniques they practice and so on.

The information gained from these visits will enable us to build a great new facility for printmakers to practice here in Perth, also providing a base from which to teach and research greener printmaking techniques.

It is fascinating getting to see these spaces, and I hope to visit as many studios and departments as possible over the next few months. I’d like to say a big thank you to Catherine King and Gabriele Jogelaite for showing me around their excellent studio space at Forth Valley College.

I actually ended up visiting on the day of the annual degree show opening, with students hurriedly putting the finishing touches to their work! It was brilliant to see all of the finished art and design work throughout the college, with a great atmosphere all around.
